Technology – Materials
Advanced material development and testing is a mainstay at NEMO. We pride ourselves on staying ahead of the curve by exploring peripheral industries and collaborating with partners to develop custom textiles. We have the utmost confidence in the materials chosen for our tents. NEMO fabrics undergo rigorous testing to ensure that weight, performance, and durability are optimal for a given application.
GORE-TEX® Shelter Fabric
One of the most advanced lightweight single-wall fabrics available for the tactical market, the Berry-compliant GORE-TEX® Shelter Fabric combines high strength textiles with Gore’s patented ePTFE-based membrane technology. This CPAI-84 compliant shelter fabric has high breathability and air permeability to minimize condensation, and also provides outstanding signature protection, exceeding most Military requirements for visual opacity (blackout) and near-infrared (nIR) reflection characteristics. Extensive field tests have also shown that Gore’s fabric delivers superior protection against Image Intensifying detectors used in night vision goggles.
The 7-color multi-environment camouflage pattern is officially licensed from Crye Precision, and available on a variety of high performance NEMO shelter fabrics. Developed for a wide range of terrain, seasons, environments, and light conditions, this pattern can be found in NEMO camouflage cover, rainfly, and waterproof/breathable shell fabrics.
NEMO’s waterproof/breathable fabric, OSMO™, continues to set the standard for breathability in ultralight single wall tents. OSMO™ is a 40D high-tenacity polyester ripstop with a hydrophobic microporous PU coating that is extremely breathable across a broad range of humidities. The polyester is naturally UV-resistant and doesn’t sag when wet. OSMO™ is also highly durable, chemical-resistant, and abrasion-resistant. An enhanced light reduction coating on the interior of OSMO™ DC prevents evidence of detectable light leakage through the fabric for standard military test protocols.
Developed for the most extreme weather conditions on earth, OSMO™ EC is designed to handle heavy doses of sun, snow, wind, and rain without batting an eyelash. OSMO™ EC is especially resistant against continuous UV exposure with its innovative woven construction of high-tenacity polyester threads cross-reinforced with Dyneema. The exterior surface is treated with a UV-inhibiting agent and PU-coated on the interior for complete weatherproofness.
This proprietary nylon mesh uses a high quality DWR on the exterior to shrug off moisture, dew, and light rain showers. A little shakedown when packing up means that your mesh stays dry and ready to go for your next adventure. Packdry™ is the only DWR no-see-um mesh on the market.
X-PLY® AIRBEAM FABRIC
The outer fabric layer of NEMO’s airbeams provides the shape, strength, and puncture resistance in a lightweight package. Developed with renowned sailcloth manufacturer Dimension-Polyant, NEMO’s Multi-Laminate X-PLY® fabric accomplishes all of this with incredible dimensional stability and excellent seam holding strength. Orientated X-PLY® yarns are inserted into high-tenacity base fabric for even greater strength. The dimensional stability helps maintain the beam shape and strength given the airbeam’s low operating pressure.
